The property is a carefully and imaginatively restored Breton farm-worker’s cottage with adjoining converted barn, dating back to around 1879. Much of the original character of the building, including the exposed oak beams and original fireplace, has been retained. The cottage is situated in a peaceful, countryside hamlet yet it is only a five minute drive from the bustling, historic medieval town of Josselin. The house provides an excellent base for exploring Southern Brittany and is only a 40-60 minute drive from some of the magnificent sandy beaches of the Southern Brittany coastline, including the celebrated Gulf of Morbihan.
The hamlet is situated on the Nantes/Brest canal. The nearby canal towpath makes for easy walking and excellent cycling both to Josselin itself (half an hour’s walk) and to nearby local villages.

The area is special since it so easily provides peace and quiet for walking, cycling, canoeing, sailing and fishing, yet it is also easy to get to the numerous surrounding villages, with their weekly markets, historic churches, local bars and wonderful restaurants.
For those seeking more adventure it is possible to get to Paris for the day from the nearby TGV station at Ploërmel, to Rennes by car in 45 minutes and to Vannes in 30 minutes. Other nearby places to visit include: Josselin – 10 minute drive, a 30 minute walk or 20 minute cycle ride along the towpath. This is a medieval town of great character designated a 'Petite Cité de Caractère' and Floral Town. It boasts a famous Chateau, 11th Century Church and 17th Century housing. There is a fine selection of bars, restaurants, pavement cafés and shops, and a bustling Saturday market. We think it is one of the best small towns in Brittany.
