Set in the heart of Provence, on the heights above the ancient village of Barjols, is this fabulous apartment, completely refurbished and transformed from its origins as a tannery. It has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and is the last word in contemporary living.

The building sits above Barjols in an imposing position alongside a small stream and bordering woodland. Its magnificent 347m² of habitable space are a true testament to modern design. This fabulous loft, with its imaginative use of space and contemporary post industrial concepts, provides surprises around every corner.

The imposing front door gives access to the start of the living space, with a number of glazed bays for reading, contemplation or simply conversation. Then there is the kitchen area of theatrical proportions. The dining area stretches underneath the massive mezzanine floor and leads on to the cathedral-like sitting room with a cube fireplace, itself a work of art. One of the bathrooms is the axis at the centre of all of this. On the first floor there is a vast, open space which surrounds the second bathroom, and gives access to a study and the three bedrooms. A terrace overlooking the woods completes this exceptional property.

The picturesque village of Barjols is found in the sought-after department of the Var which lies in one of France's most beautiful areas, and the countryside around the village of Barjols is stunning. All the glories of Provence can be seen as you drive around the locality, with lavender fields, vineyards, olive groves and the wild, aromatic garrigue grasslands.

Like many mediaeval towns and villages in this area, Barjols is built on a hill, with the remains of an old château on the top. The village is best known for its water... with many lovely fountains, a water wheel, waterfalls and rivers and streams in and around the village. Several old lavoirs, or wash houses, can still be seen around the village.

The village is made up of a network of narrow streets and small squares, and it is in two of these squares that a traditional street market sets up twice a week. Barjols also has a good selection of other shops, and of particular note are the art studios and shops which have taken over some of the other old tannery buildings to create a Zone d'Art.

The village has a selection of bars, cafés and restaurants. Provençal food is acclaimed throughout the world, and traditional local products such as olive oil, wines and Mediterranean vegetables are all on offer at the markets and in local shops.
