From Vire you can actually get the train to the beach, but also, if you went in the other direction, you could be in Paris in 2hrs 40 mins. If ferry access is important, it’s just 1hr from the Caen ferry port at Ouistreham. Caen itself is also a lovely city to visit and it’s about 50minutes into the city centre.
