Vouvant is officially classified by the French government as one of the most beautiful villages in France.  Surrounded by lovely countryside and far-reaching views, this is an area with lots to explore.  The nearby forest and lakes are ideal for walking and water-based sports. Nearby La Châtaigneraie and Fontenay-le-Comte are also well worth visiting and the beach is just over an hour away.  La Rochelle and the Ile de Ré are ideal day trip destinations, about a 1hr 15 min drive away.  La Rochelle also has the nearest airport. The ferry port at St Malo is 3hr 20mins away.
