Location:
The property is located in the pretty village of Cazalrenoux, which has a friendly and welcoming community. Most of the residents are of course French but there are some Dutch, Belgian and British residents. There are some lovely hillside walks from the house and the surrounding countryside is very beautiful.
There are no shops in the village but there is an excellent bakery and restaurant in nearby Fanjeaux, which is about a 10min drive. The popular market town of Mirepoix is 20mins away. Here you’ll find a weekly produce market and a good selection of shops and restaurants. There’s also a very good English-speaking doctor here. There’s a large supermarket at Castelnaudaray and an excellent farm shop at Villasavary. There are also a couple of beautiful lakes nearby that are perfect for cooling off in during the summer months.
The UNESCO-protected medieval city of Carcassonne is 30mins away, whilst Toulouse is about an hour. Both these cities have airports and there’s a TGV station at Toulouse. The house is 20mins from the auto-route which means that one can be in Spain in around 90mins.
